I bought this unit, a BTech UV-50X3 for several good reasons.

1. I like the large multi – color display
2. Due to the lack of space in my 2014 Ford Edge
The separate main unit and head unit afforded the best fit and mounting options. Since space is tight in my cabin area.
3. A tri band 50 watt unit that match’s my BTech tri band 5 watt handhelds. (UV-5X3) I like them so far!
I looked at other units but kept coming back the the BTech even though this unit cost a little more
( The ratings were better), just a bit pricey

4. The main unit is heavy extruded aluminum material for good heat rejection. Not thin sheet metal.

I am still waiting to get my ham license so I can transmit (soon) so I can’t rate it in this area yet!

My dislikes on this unit are only two right now,

1. You can’t simultaneously display the Freq and the alphanumeric name it’s either or, but not both at the same time, Bummer my UV-5X3 handhelds can! Shame!

2. BTech raves about their redesigned super great suction cup mount for their nice large head Display unit.

Don’t think so, it is to short for the high rake wind shields that are on american cars and trucks today. And it’s ball mount arm is thin and flimsy and flexes too much for my liking, thinking it might break later.

with the BTech mount, I can only mount it on my windshield and you have to lean way too far forward to operate the display controls, which is too dangerous while driving. it would not stick to my dash pad because it is wrinkled. Flat smooth surfaces only, most new cars have wrinkled dashes
So BTech missed it here!

My solution I bought a ( iottie brand ) universal smart phone mount # HLCRIO148 from BjS’ was on sale from 30.00 to 20.00 dollars.
This suction cup mount part is superbly designed very sturdy and well made, IN THE USA A BIG PLUS.
First off its suction cup is a sticky cup over 2″ in diameter and it has a Very sturdy boom that is extendable several inches, locks with a thumb wheel and bends and the back of the boom where it mounts to the base of the sticky cup. this gives you a lot more mounting options/positions over the stock BTech
mount. This is a Beefy Mount!

The ball end will mount to the BTech adapter plate that attaches to the BTech plate that snaps on the back of the BTech head unit.

I stuck the iottie mount directly to my dash pad and pushed the head unit down tight to the forward edge of my dash pad making the head unit solidly anchored to my center desk even when pulling on the microphone cord the head unit does not move. They also give you a larger plastic disk with sticky tape on one side for other surfaces, then put the sticky cup on top of it. In my opinion the sticky cup is super sticky and reusable just by washing with water and reusing it over and over. The plastic disc is a one time use thing only. Says so In the instructions.

BTech take notice… you should include this iottie mount with the UV-50X3 as standard mount cause the stock mount you now supply is not that good at all! Down right whimpy! And not well suited for most vehicles.
But it would work on my wife’s Subaru crosstrek has a very flat non dimpled hard plastic dash pad in the center area of the dash.

However, I’ve been extremely happy with it’s performance receiving great signal reports at full quieting. The display is a great advantage due to its size. Very easy to see with a quick glance, unlike most other radios with very small displays. Wish the 220 band was full power as 1.25 M has great propagation properties. If Btech could make this with close to full power on 220, you would have a winner. (The display on the 25X4 is way too small so I would not consider that radio even though has decent power on 220MHz.)
